The world is moving through a turbulent age. I watch footage of Dr. Fauci at a hearing in the United States and feel how quickly politics, medicine, science, and technology are being rearranged. Yesterday’s common sense may not be tomorrow’s.
Difficulty can become joy
Building the future is not easy. We stop, fail, and wonder whether we chose the right direction. Yet because it is difficult, overcoming it little by little can become fun. We do not have to change the world in one day. Gain experience, find companions, rest sometimes, and stand up again.
We need balance
To keep moving in a fast-changing age, we need balance in mind and body. Eat, sleep, laugh, listen to music, talk with someone, and leave space for doing nothing. These ordinary moments are not separate from creating the future. They are where our strength begins.
Some things do not change
Technology and society change, but precious memories remain: a voice, a landscape, an old piece of music. Something we see or hear can suddenly reconnect us with happiness and remind us, “Yes—this is what I love.”
The sound of my old school
Recently I watched my old school’s alumni orchestra. Familiar faces filled the stage. During the encore, the conductor who had guided us in high school appeared. He had grown older, but his conducting was wonderfully powerful. His arms moved, the sound moved, and the whole room changed.
This is it!
This presence. This feeling.
Music is born in that place and disappears there. The same performance never happens twice. It cannot be fully explained by convenience, efficiency, or numbers. Still, it certainly exists: the joy of familiar faces, the vibration when sounds meet, and the feeling that our younger and present selves are connected.
Into a changing world
The world will keep changing. When we are tired, we can return to the memories, sounds, and people that matter. Then we recover our balance and take another step. We may be clumsy. We may stop halfway. But carrying what we love, we can keep moving forward.
I’m going out into the world too!
